DEVELOP SERVICE MODEL FOR ELECTRIFIED URBAN AIR MOBILITY

Background
Katla Aero has the goal to commercialise Urban Air Mobility based on their high performance eVTOL drone after years of development and demo-flights. The idea is to provide their customers with drone-as-a-service. Planethon was asked to develop hypotheses for such service offerings, including proposed launch business models and long term potential scenarios.

Solution
To establish common grounds, we used some established strategic analysis tools to set the stage in terms of market trends, the regulatory landscape and industry structure and forces. We performed several deep interviews of experts and a B2B customer workshop together with go-to-market partners in order to get very concrete and detailed insights on desirability and viability of different value propositions. Based on this we developed a holistic framework with recommendations and key next steps.

“Vi sökte en partner som delade vårt djupa miljöintresse och kunde vara ett värdefullt bollplank för att utveckla vårt arbetssätt och strategi framåt. Planethon var den partnern och har hjälpt oss accelerera vår förändringskraft både som team och med våra portföljbolag.”

Result
Katla Aero received a broad research & analysis overview with numerous references to explore in more depth as needed. The interviews and workshop results were summarised in an initiative portfolio, where the initiatives were first mapped against themes that were derived from the market and industry research. Then, we proposed three alternative offering levels (product, service, platform), a prioritisation framework for the many initiatives that could be taken to market based on innovation management principles, and a suggested prioritised execution roadmap for how to reach scale.

“It has been very valuable for Katla Aero to work with Planethon on the service offering. Particularly because the sustainability challenge for aviation and the broader transition to a greener transport system calls for business models that factor in the values of sustainability properly.”
